Vice-President of Technology Development at Global Foundries

Isabelle Ferain is an Engineering Executive and Electrical Engineer, who serves as Vice-President of Technology Development at GlobalFoundries. Early in her career, she has worked with Alcatel Microelectronics (Belgium), Interuniversity Microelectronics Centre IMEC (Belgium) and Tyndall National Institute (Ireland), in semiconductor research and in manufacturing roles. She has contributed to developing and characterizing leading edge CMOS devices on silicon-on-insulator, and wafer to wafer bonding techniques. She has published in highly cited peer-reviewed journals and conferences. Dr. Ferain joined GlobalFoundries in 2012 and has held engineering and management roles. She has successively led GlobalFoundries’ CMOS device engineering teams and PVD engineering teams in Malta, NY. Early 2019, she held a first executive role as Director in Global Engineering, responsible for the enablement of the company’s technology transfer strategy. She became the head of GlobalFoundries Dresden’s Technology & Innovation team in 2021. Since early 2023, she is overseeing the company’s Technology Development mission in its 300mm Fabs in the US (Malta, NY and Fishkill, NY) and in Europe (Dresden, DE). Her focus is set on driving greater focus on a deliver gf’s technology roadmap, and on driving the accelerated capture of innovation from the R&D eco-system. Her teams deliver differentiated and cost effective technology solutions, in the fields embedded NVM for consumer and automotive applications, Ultra-Low Power CMOS, 3D Heterogeneous integration for RF and Silicon Photonics applications, and RF for mmWave applications. Since 2015, Isabelle has been an active member and executive sponsor of GlobalWomen. GlobalWomen is an employee-led network, with the mission to create a sustainable framework for the professional development of women at GlobalFoundries. Today, GlobalWomen has chapters located at each GlobalFoundries site, aligned to the company’s overarching Diversity & Inclusion strategy. Since 2023, Isabelle is the Global Executive sponsor of GlobalWomen, and provides strong leadership and guidance to the chapters. Isabelle is an Alumni of Katholieke Universiteit Leuven, Belgium (PhD, 2008), CentraleSupélec, France (MSc. EE, 2001) and the University of Mons, Belgium (MSc. EE, 2001). She lives in Saratoga Springs, NY.
